Nach ihrem Sieg beim Ironman Schweden (2015) feierte Astrid Stienen in Barcelona ihren zweiten Ironman-Sieg, und das mit einer Zeit von unter neuen Stunden.
Nach 8:54:27 Stunden – 1:00:29 Stunden Schwimmen, 4:40:13 Stunden Radfahren und 3:09:05 Stunden Laufen – durfte sich die 37-Jährige über die Aufnahme in den Sub9-Club freuen. Bei den Herren siegte Patrick Nilsson nach 7:55:28 Stunden. Johann Ackermann wurde Vierter.
